Rihanna & Ciara Twitter Beef? Real or Just A Gimmick...

As you probably know already, Rihanna and Ciara have engaged in quite the twitter beef. Of course it's nowhere near the caliber of Minaj and Kim's twitter/lyrical beef, but it has become quite the popular topic on twitter. Now that it has passed, the question remains, was it real or merely a fabrication intended to attract attention?

The fact that Ciara provoked it with her red carpet interview may initially send the message that she intended to provoke controversy with the hopes of generating album or singles sales is possible. With her album doing horribly and her singles not demonstrating a credible showing on the Billboard charts, one might assume she has the most to gain from such an altercation. But it was Rihanna that took to twitter to address the situation. Perhaps twitter or television interviews are not the place to address these issues, but with celebrities taking to these social networking sites with increasing frequency, it was only a matter of time before something like this would happen.

The two have made up (over the internet at least), which is encouraging. But is it pure publicity? Rihanna's album has been certified platinum in the US and triple platinum in the UK. She does not have much to gain (and plenty more to lose) from such an altercation. But Ciara, even with this hiccup in her career, is doing quite well and seems not to have really provoked the situation too much.

MY RULING: If Ciara had an issue with Rihanna, she addressed it with restraint. However, it is common courtesy (and proper etiquette) to not address these things on air. However, Rihanna must not resort to the levels she did to address these issues as well, particularly on Twitter. The positive part of this whole altercation is that a truce has been forged. The negative... we had to witness two artists exhibit some sloppiness for the whole world to see. Take a look at the tweets below, courtesy of Necole Bitchie.
