Bruno Mars covers Katy Perry's "California Gurls"


"California Gurls" caught the attention of music listeners last summer by its catchy, uptempo, synth-heavy confectionary quality. Bruno Mars, however, has stripped down the song for BBC Radio to a smooth, bluesy skeleton of its former self, laced with piano chords and his silky smooth vocals. The cover is barely recognizable as the hit that stormed the pop charts just months ago and showcases the finesse of the "Grenade" singer along with the great chemistry between him and his Smeezington songwriters.

This version is one of the best covers of the Katy Perry hit and adds a completely different touch to the electropop song, while revealing the unbridled talent of Bruno Mars. It is no wonder the singer-songwriter has created such a buzz this past year and is nominated for seven Grammy awards at next month's ceremony.
