Kanye Pulls Another "Taylor Swift Incident" on Britney Spears?

Well, not really, but would anyone really put it past 'Ye? Anyways, Kanye West tweeted today with some levity about the fact that his new Jay-Z-assisted single, "H.A.M." is stuck at number two on iTunes, being held off by Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me." In the tweet, the rapper said, "Yo Britney, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL."

Obviously referring to the VMA incident 16 months ago, he responded shortly after by tweeting, "On a serious note I'm truly happy for @AvrilLavigne and @BritneySpears... No hate in 2011!" The twitter exchange is much less serious than the backlash Kanye encountered back in 2009 for storming the stage on Taylor Swift, although some did not take his humor in stride.

Britney Spears's manager, Adam Leber, responded in a using her twitter page by tweeting, "@kanyewest Thanks for 'letting' us be #1. Much appreciated." However, Avril Lavigne responded as well on her twitter page with appreciation, tweeting, "Yo @KanyeWest I'm really happy for U and I'mma lovin you at #2, and @BritneySpears at #1, but What The Hell all the way! :) haha! xoxo."

Clearly three big music releases wouldn't be complete without some quasi Twitter drama. Regardless, this little exchange functions as free promotion for all three performers and the fact that we're even talking about it translates to some serious money in their pockets. Kudos Kanye again!
