Lupe Fiasco Postpones Project for Yeezy-Jigga Album

Remember CRS? If not, Child Rebel Soldiers are three independently successful rappers who had great plans of releasing an album as a super-hip hop band. Consisting of Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco, the trio had formed after working together on Kanye West's Can't Tell Me Nothing - EP back in 2007 and headlined the Glow in the Dark Tour with Rihanna. However, the past three years have essentially led to little new music.

However, the G.O.O.D. Friday mixtape released by Kanye West before his recent album last year renewed hope of the group returning to the studio for the long-awaited album after appearing on the track "Don't Stop!" The good news is that they will be hitting the studio. The bad news is it won't be happening anytime soon.

When speaking with Hot 93.7, Lupe fiasco has said that various other music projects by West and Williams have created timing conflicts for studio work on the trio's debut album. He goes on to say, "Whenever we get to go in the studio and have the time and the opportunity to do it, we're always working on some other project."

He explains in detail that the recent Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration album was somewhat of a bummer, in that it has further postponed any work on the CRS project, stating, "I think the Jay-Z/Kanye collabo was kinda like, 'Aww man, aww no.'" Furthermore, Pharrell's current work on a movie soundtrack has made it particularly difficult for the group to work on the album. Fiasco says, "It's becoming less of an album and more of everytime we do a song together. Me, 'Ye, and Pharrell, a CRS thing."

Personally, this project has intrigued me much more than the Kanye/Jay collaboration, especially because all three are not just rappers, but impressive producers whose efforts, when combined on an album, could produce some very good music. The postponement of the album can have to results: increased anticipation with a greater final product (as the project will have all of their undivided attention) or the ultimate disbandment of a potentially incredible hip hop group. My optimism gives me the hope that the former will happen.
