MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: "What The Hell" by Avril Lavigne

What Avril wants you to know with the video for her new song is that she's not just a tease, she has a male creature more loyal than a dog following her every move. As she awakes from a bed with her love interest, the ever-rebellious Lavigne carjacks a NYC cab on what is far from a NYC block (clearly the video was filmed in Los Angeles). As she drives down the road, she is followed by her clingy boyfriend in a desperate but eerily stalkerish gesture of affection.

She stops by a basketball court, shows off her obvious skills at the sport, before she runs into an Abbey Dawn shop. As expected, her significant other follows her every move, following her from store to store, stage to backstage and is there as she descends from the crowd-surfing. They land back on the bed from which they arose, and it seems the cycle will more than likely repeat itself tomorrow.

The video has the obligatory skater snapshots, including skateboards and her Abbey Dawn attire, which seems a bit random and only serves the purpose of reinforcing her allegiance to the skater demographic. Her dissension comes across as rehearsed, and while she does look quite beautiful and her body is immaculate in the opening scene, it seems to be little more than an extension of the "Girlfriend" music video for a song that might be more of a re-release single from The Best Damn Thing than the lead single for a new album.

Avril Lavigne does not exactly aim to shock or provoke people with her music videos and this visual is no exception. While it is fun and playful, Avril provides more of the typical video than anything else. Regardless, it was enjoyable.
