VIDEO PREMIERE: "Mine Smell Like Honey" by R.E.M.

The Athens, Georgia-based band R.E.M. have released the music video for their new song "Mine Smell Like Honey." In an exclusive release for NME's online publication, the music video is an interesting visual reminiscent of the antiquated silent films of the 1920s and that's exactly what the intent was here as bassist Mike Mills told Spinner that in particular they aimed to recreate the magic of Buster Keaton-type silent comedies.

Watch the video below:

The video consists of lead vocalist Michael Stripe being tossed up flights of stairs by a group of people as he struggles to escape their grasp. He is rotated in clockwise fashion up the stairs, while the video is treated with smudge stick visual treatment and follows a flipbook animation. The song is nice and reminiscent of R.E.M.'s older music. Their album Collapse Into Now will be released March 7th and features collaborations with Peaches, Patti Smith and Eddie Vedder. Hopefully we'll get a video for "Uberlin" soon as well.
