Adele Scores Biggest Sales Week of 2011 in US

Adele's early success may have been a product of serendipity when her first SNL performance coincided with a cameo by Sarah Palin during the height of the 2008 Presidential Election, but there's no denying that her success today is purely her own doing. The London crooner has not only secured herself a top spot on the U.S. albums chart, she has also secured herself the best sales week of the year in the ninth week of 2011, according to Hits Daily Double.

Not only did 21 sell amazingly with 353,129 copies this past week, she far exceeded early estimates based on first day sales, which predicted total sales of 275-300,000. Honestly, this is great news as number ones on the American albums charts this year have been disproportionately dominated by sub-100k sales. In fact, this year has consisted of repeated weeks of number one album sales which broke the record for the lowest selling number one set by the number one of the previous week. Adele to rescue indeed. A major congrats to her, as the second best selling album is more than 250,000 less in copies sold as Justin Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes sold 98,691 this past week at number two.

NOTE: These numbers are those of Hits Daily Double, which do not necessarily reflect the total album sales taken into account by the Billboard chart. But there's no denying Adele's sales numbers, whether they grow or contract, will be more than enough to give the Brit her first U.S. album number one. By tomorrow, we'll see where "Rolling In The Deep" appears on the Hot 100!
