Britney Storms the Billboard Hot 100

Britney Spears has a lot to be happy about today, this after her new single "Hold It Against Me" becomes the 18th song in Billboard history to debut atop the Hot 100 and the first since Kesha's "We R Who We R" achieved that feat late last year. If that isn't enough, she earns the distinction of having the greatest debut sales week for a digital song by a female with 411,000 copies sold, besting Taylor Swift's "Today Was A Fairytale" which sold 325,000 copies its first week back in February 2010.

Check out the other big debuts and the top ten on this week's Hot 100 below:
Furthermore, Britney becomes only the second artist to have more than one number one debut on the chart after her first number one debut "3" stormed the charts in 2009. The only other artist is Mariah Carey, whose song "Fantasy," "One Sweet Day," and "Honey" all made it to number one in their first week on the chart. What is interesting about this trend is it essentially solidifies the reemergence of single releases as a major industry tactic to shake up the charts, especially since albums are performing terribly today.

Although Britney is the big story today, other big names have debuted on this week's chart. Avril Lavigne's "What the Hell" debuts at number 13 on the chart, while the song's 163,000 first week sales secures a spot in the top ten on the Digital Songs chart at number six. Kanye West and Jay-Z's "H.A.M." makes it to number 23 on the Hot 100 with 125,000 copies sold over the weekend and rounds out the top ten on the Digital Songs chart at ten.

Take a look below at the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100:
